The Alaska Packers laid up in Acledama Creek

A salmon shipping company that succsessfully operated for 102 years .

Life[]

The Alaska Packers were a company that owned square rigged ships.  This company was founded in 1890. Their crews canned and fished for salmon for a great many years. They had about 37 tall ships in all that were used.

Finally, their square rigged ships wore out. In the early 20's, they were driven into Acledama Creek in northeast Alaska and left there to rot.

Two ships were bought and used for various purposes. The others were abandoned in the creek or were sold to Japan for the scrapyards. The company turned to bulk freighters after this. In 1982, the company was sold out once and for all to a Seattle company.
